The Seattle Times: “The Art” of Hiring a Head Football Coach

Bud Withers, a staff reporter with The Seattle Times, authored a fascinating piece on April 21, 2012, concerning “the art” of hiring a head football coach at NCAA Division I institutions. Withers uses Washington State University director of athletics Bill Moos’ pursuit of Mike Leach and the process used by Greg Byrne, the University of Arizona director of athletics, to hire Rich Rodriguez to highlight how some Division I athletics CEOs go about finding and hiring head football coaches. It is a good read for a unique snapshot into intercollegiate athletics administration.
