Media Report: NCAA Expands Auburn Investigation

Sporting News is reporting the NCAA is expanding its enforcement investigation of Auburn University into the recruitment of Tigers freshmen Greg Robinson and Trovon Reed. USA Today.com reported last November that federal, state and NCAA officials were investigating allegations that Auburn Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton’s father, Cecil, solicited up to $200,000 last year from Mississippi State while his son was being recruited from a junior college in Texas. The Newtons have denied any wrongdoing. The recruitment of high-profile prospective student-athletes has become a hot topic—most importantly, the prevention of NCAA rules-violations involving such activities should be a major area of concern for presidents, athletic directors, general counsel and compliance officers.
