Arizona Republic Article: Investigations and Challenges Impacting the Bowl Championship Series (BCS)Future

The Arizona Republic’s Craig Harris authored a detailed examination of the future of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). The October 2, 2011, piece, “BCS changes could be afoot in wake of investigations”, reviews how the BCS plans to chart its future “as the contracts that created the BCS system approach their 2014 expiration”. Specifically, during this process, BCS leaders must address several issues and challenges, including: fallout from an investigation of one BCS bowl (Fiesta); adjustments due to conference realignment; calls for the addition of a fifth bowl or a Division I playoff system; anticipation of the findings from an NCAA bowl task force; and threatened antitrust action.
