New Division III Interpretation: Review of Film During Football Strength and Conditioning Period

On May 7, 2012, the Division III Interpretations and Legislation Committee issued an interpretation concerning the review of film during the football strength and conditioning period. Specifically, the Committee confirmed “that the review of film is considered limited skill instruction and would be permissible during the football strength and conditioning period.”

This interpretation referenced NCAA Division III Bylaws 17.02.1 (athletically related activities); 17.02.1.1. (athletically related activities); 17.1.5 (out-of-season athletically related activities); 17.9.6 (out-of-season athletically related activities); and 17.9.6.1 (exception)

In light of this interpretation, the Michael L. Buckner Law Firm recommends institutions’ athletics compliance include the interpretation in the next scheduled rules-education session for the athletics staff and coaches.
