ESPN States Penn State Expected to Ratify Sanctions

On August 9, 2012, ESPN.com stated the Penn State University board of trustees will hold a special meeting on Sunday, August 12, 2012, where it is expected to ratify the consent decree agreed to by president Rodney Erickson on July 23rd. The meeting, which has been called by board chairwoman Karen Peetz, is expected to end any speculation on where the board stands.

Although it is believed only a few of more than twenty trustees wish to appeal, trustee Ryan J. McCombie filed an appeal to the NCAA over the sanctions on Monday. The trustees in favor of appealing the NCAA sanctions believe Erickson lacked the legal authority to enter into the agreement without the full board’s approval. There is also an indication that the appeal is a precursor to a federal lawsuit as the trustees expect the appeal to be rejected.
