Penn State University Agrees to Terms of Athletics Integrity Agreement

On August 29, 2012, Penn State University announced it reached an agreement with the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference on the terms of the Athletics Integrity Agreement required under the Consent Decree signed on July 23rd by NCAA president Mark Emmert and Penn State president Rodney Erickson.

The Athletics Integrity Agreement (AIA) requires the institution to establish a program that includes: (1) the adoption of the recommendations contained in the Freeh Report; (2) appointment of an Athletics Integrity Officer and Athletics Integrity Council; (3) the establishment of internal and external accountability measures and certifications; (4) the implementation or updating of the University’s Code of Conduct; training and education; and (5) a disclosure program. The independent monitoring party who will oversee the institution’s compliance is former U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell.
