On November 20, 2013, Buckner attorney Lori Williams was quoted in a USA Today article written by Adam Himmelsbach regarding University of Louisville men’s basketball student-athlete Kevin Ware’s use of a borrowed car from a friend under NCAA legislation. Williams, senior counsel to Buckner and a former NCAA enforcement investigator stated the Ware situation did not raise any immediate concerns. Williams added, “student-athletes have friends, and a friend being able to borrow another friend’s car is something that happens all the time, as it does for non-student-athletes. It would be difficult to hold the institution responsible for every friend that a student-athlete has who might be willing to share clothes, cars, food. Where do you draw the line on something like that?”
